Childhood is a magical time because of our capacity to be awed, to imagine an entire universe made of stories and to learn by playing. Some of the best games for kids don’t have to be complex or expensive at all, as they only need the proper stimulation to invent their games themselves.
This is why every kid has fun when wearing costumes or role-playing their favorite characters from cartoons, comic books or stories. And nothing is more enchanting for a child than the legends of superheros and their fight for the good.
If playing as superheroes was once a game only reserved for boys, today every kid is free to put on a cape and go save the world. With so many characters and stories available, be sure that your kids have plenty of characters to choose from.
But let’s see how you can accessorize a superhero cape, depending on who is your kid’s favorite fighter for justice. We have selected a few of the most popular caped heroes and have some suggestions on how to accessorize their capes.
Superman
He is the most recognizable superhero of all. The Man of Steel has been an all time favorite since he was created in the ‘50s. Everybody loves him and the Superman sign is so iconic, that even a toddler can recognize it.
For a Superman costume, get a red cape with the yellow Superman symbol on the back. The outfit is simple: a blue t-shirt and red shorts. If you can find a shirt that already has the logo on it, it’s much more simple. But you can also cut it from adhesive paper and apply it on the chest of the shirt.
Batman
For the kids who want to fight crime, Batman is the ultimate hero. He doesn’t even have superpowers, but he will always be a superhuman in our minds. The Dark Knight is just as iconic as our first hero, but the costume is very different.
You will need a Batman cape for this look, as it is a trademark in itself. The cape’s hem is shaped to resemble a bat’s wings when they spread out. The cape should be black or dark blue and cover the body entirely. Accessorize it with a cardboard Batman mask in black, a black outfit and an adhesive Batman logo in yellow.
Robin
He is the most beloved sidekick of all time and he helps Batman fight crime in Gotham. Surely a lot of kids will want this costume, so prepare the cape and accessories.
Start with two t-shirts, one green, and one red. If you can’t find a sleeveless red shirt, cut the sleeves off so you turn it into a vest. This will go over the green shirt. Cut the Robin logo out of fabric or scrap paper and glue it to the chest. You can also add yellow laces. For the down part, wear green tights and red briefs.
The only two things you will need after this is the Robin black mask and the bright yellow cape.
Wonder Woman
For this incredible superhero, you will need charm, strength and a lot of confidence. No wonder so many kids love Wonder Woman! Her costume may look complex, but you can make it look very convincing with a few DIY tricks.
Use a red tank top and apply yellow tape in the shape of the W she has on her chest. For the bottom, you can use blue short or tights and even decorate them with white stars. Don’t forget that Wonder Woman wears wrist cuffs, a tiara, and a belt. You can make them from gold duct tape, applying it on fabric and using velcro to close them up.
Even if Wonder Woman doesn’t have a cape in the comics, the costume would look even better with a red, blue or gold cape your kid can wave around while “driving” the invisible car.
Whether if it’s a costume for Halloween, a birthday party or just some fun during their free time, all kids love to pretend they’re a character they like. It will bring them a lot of joy and it’s a simple and affordable toy you can get them.
